Our Beginnings: Pioneering Plastic Surgery In Barranquilla

For over four decades, Queen Catalina Clinic has been a cornerstone of health in Barranquilla and Colombia’s Caribbean region. Established in 1983 by the visionary Dr. Ricardo Manzur, our institution was founded on a strong commitment to specialized, detailed care. This laid the groundwork for what is now a benchmark institution across multiple medical disciplines, with a distinguished legacy in plastic and reconstructive surgery. We proudly operate to international standards and are nationally recognized for providing the highest level of complex medical care (Fourth-Level Complexity), ensuring you receive world-class treatment.

Reina Catalina Clinic’s journey began in Barranquilla as the Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Center, located at the corner of Carrera 38 and Calle 63B. This marked Dr. Ricardo Manzur’s first step in realizing a healthcare project focused on excellence and specialization, with plastic surgery as one of its foundational pillars.

Grow & Vision: The Rise Of A Premier Medical Institution

Our unwavering commitment to health and continuous growth led to the construction of a new, larger facility in 1992 at the corner of Calle 82 No. 47 – 12, initially named the Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Clinic.

Driven by a profound understanding of Latin America’s evolving healthcare landscape, Dr. Manzur embarked on an ambitious multi-stage hospital project. Adjacent to this facility, an impressive eight-story building was erected. At this pivotal moment, the institution transformed into a top-tier, high-complexity clinic capable of offering a full spectrum of medical-surgical services, and was renamed QUEEN CATALINA CLINIC. This name honors his aunt, Dr. Catalina Manzur, a pioneering Pharmaceutical Chemist, and his first daughter, also named Catalina Manzur.

As QUEEN Catalina Clinic expanded its services to offer comprehensive, integrated care, the standard of excellence and innovation in plastic and reconstructive surgery, established from its origins, remained a core principle—a commitment we extend to all our international patients.

The success of this vision spurred the next phase: the construction of a second building integrated with the first, which became operational in 2004. This expansion allowed for the opening of critical new units such as the Pediatric ICU, Renal Unit, Coronary Care Unit, and Hemodynamics Service. It also broadened our capacity to deliver advanced (third and fourth-level) medical services to the Atlantic region. This robust, high-complexity hospital environment ensures the highest safety and quality standards for all procedures, including the plastic and reconstructive surgeries sought by our patients from the United States and around the world.

In 2012, the new Tower C was inaugurated at our Barranquilla campus, further expanding our capacity for care. Reina Catalina Clinic has solidified its role as a key institution in the health and social development of the city, the Atlantic coast, and Colombia, offering care up to the highest national level of complexity, featuring state-of-the-art technology and highly qualified professionals.

Regional Expansion: Reina Catalina Clinic – Baranoa Campus (2014 – 2018) With the goal of extending high-complexity health services to the western part of the Atlántico department, Dr. Ricardo Manzur Ayala decided in 2014 to build a campus in the municipality of Baranoa. It opened its doors on February 24, 2018, providing multiple services including adult, neonatal, and pediatric ICUs, surgery, and a renal unit, positively impacting regional health and employment.
